Minutes Summary for April 5, 2023
School Board Work Session Holdingford Public School
The Holdingford School Board held a School Board Work Session on April 5, 2023. Members present: Elissa Ebnet, Sarah Binek, Ed Feia, Lori Opatz, Rob Knettel and Pat Meier. Absent: Evelyn Martini. Also attending was Superintendent Chris Swenson, Business Manager Garrity Gerber, Secondary Principal Tim Wege, Elementary Principal Jim Stang, and District Adm. Assistant Linda Zapzalka.
Mr. Gerber presented the FY23 Revised Budget including 2021-2022 revised, 2022-2023 adopted, 2022-2023 revised and the change in revenue and expenses for the general fund, food service, community education, construction fund, debt service, student activities and district activities. The majority of the change is the increase in the cost of utilities. He explained the breakdown of fund one showing the projected yearend fund balance to be 17.39%. The final 2022-2023 Revised Revenue and Expenditure Budgets will be on the agenda for approval at the April School Board meeting.
Mr. Gerber updated the Board on facility projects. He explained the facility committee prioritized work for this summer and he will be getting quotes on girls locker room and baseball, softball field work.
Mr Swenson recommends having a documented process in Policy 606 - Textbooks and Instructional Materials to handle an official written challenge of materials. He shared an example of a policy that includes a process that he would recommend adding to the current MSBA policy. This policy will be brought back for further review.
The following policies have non-substantive updates. The updates restore consistency in policy references and ensure that the reference reflects current federal and state statutory titles. The meaning of the policies have not changed. The Board reviewed Policy 506 - Student Discipline, Policy 613 - Graduation Requirements and Policy 806 - Crisis Management.
Discussion ensued on Legislative proposals.
