ST. CLOUD — Jacob Jon Westbrock, 24, of Holdingford, was sentenced Dec. 12 by a Stearns County judge to a stayed sentence of five years and nine months in prison for causing a fatal crash in August of 2020 when 33-year-old Russell Heitzman, of Avon, died.

Albany hearing focuses on street project

Albany’s proposed budget and levy for 2024 still includes a large dollar figure for street milling and overlay. Council members contemplated a proposed levy of 16.83%, a $222,277 increase over the 2023 levy, during a Dec. 6 truth-in-taxation hearing at Albany City Hall in Albany.

Advanced life support ready

The Sauk Centre Ambulance Service went live as an advanced life support service Nov. 17, which means they can transfer ALS patients with one of their three paramedics on the ambulance and a paramedic can provide on-scene medical care. The Melrose Ambulance Service will start Jan. 1, 2024, with two registered nurses and one paramedic currently on their roster, with an anticipated second paramedic in the near future.
