Meet the candidates: Holdingford School Board

Benjamin Christensen and Sarah Hansen are vying for one open special election seat on the Holdingford School Board. 

Benjamin Christensen

Age: 47

Occupation: Purchasing coordinator

Why are you running for this position? I am running for the Holdingford School Board to support our students, staff, families and the wider community in any way I can. As someone who has had the privilege of serving on the school board before, I understand the importance of collaboration, communication and dedication to the community.

What issue affecting your school district do you find most pertinent and pressing? Why? Although I am not focused on addressing any specific issues, my commitment lies in ensuring that District 738 continues to have a strong advocate who is invested in both the present and future of the school district. My goal is to provide representation that truly cares about the well-being of everyone involved with our schools. 

Sarah Hansen

Age: 36

Occupation: Training and outreach manager/marketing strategist

Why are you running for this position? As a parent and active community member, I have seen the positive impact of the current school board and aim to build on that success. By lending my experience in business and community projects, I want to help create more opportunities for students to thrive. I am committed to ensuring every student in our district has access to a quality education, and I believe my skills can contribute to making our schools even better for all.

What issue affecting your school district do you find most pertinent and pressing? Why? While our school district has seen overall positive impacts on students, a pertinent area to focus on is enhancing community engagement, especially for parents new to the district. Strengthening communication between parents, educators and administrators can foster collaboration and support for our schools. By building stronger partnerships, we can better identify and celebrate the successes within our district and ensure all voices are heard. This approach will help us continue to provide a supportive environment for students, allowing them to thrive and succeed while reinforcing the strong foundation already established in our community.

Are there other issues you want to address? I am eager to learn more about our school district and the current challenges it faces by engaging on a deeper level as a school board member. I believe issues are best addressed when worked on together as a team of diversified and well-rounded individuals lending their experiences and perspectives to find the best possible solution and directly support the education of our students.
